A return to the Blackpool Model Show was made on and by Vic Crossman, Martyn Parsons, and Peter Muxlow. A good number of SSME members’ models were displayed on the club stand, erected by our show organizer Vic, ably assisted by Martyn and Peter. The models being displayed were owned by Vic, Peter, Jim Wilson, and Martyn. The stand generated a lot of interest, as 90% of the models displayed elsewhere at the show were boats or boat-related.
During the two days, exhibitors voted on the best models in the show, with categories such as “best boat” and “best lorry”. An award called “best other model” is usually also given. SSME members at the show were informed on morning that Jim Wilson’s pannier tank locomotive had won this coveted award. As Jim wasn’t at the show, the prize was collected on his behalf by Martyn Parsons, accompanied by Peter. Vic, Martyn, and Peter made the decision to surprise Jim, by notifying him about the award at a presentation when his models were returned at Normanby Hall during the Tuesday working party. These photographs show the award-winning locomotive, and Martyn presenting Jim with his award.
